Odell Lane Obituary

Odell lived a full life in a full home. She was raised is Albany, GA, where she was the oldest of twelve children, born on November 17, 1935, to parents Abraham Sr. and Ella Mae Lane.
She worked at the YMCA in Center City Philadelphia for many years and when that building closed, she worked for several property management companies where her strong work ethic stood out and where her good nature and permanent smile captured everyone who came to know her.
Odell was passionate about animals and particularly loved cats and dogs. While most places where she lived precluded her from having any, she was able to eventually adopt a rescued cat while living at Bethlehem Village in Flourtown, PA. Her cat, Kiwi, was showered with love by Odell. Her sister, Ollie Lane, will continue in the tradition and will be taking Kiwi back to Georgia.
Odell brought her southern charm and eternal optimism to Philadelphia sixty years ago, where her kindness will always be remembered by those of us who had the good fortune of knowing and loving her.
She is survived by sisters; Ollie, Priscilla, Mamie and Vertel and brothers; Andrew, Nay Shack, Jerry and Charlie. Siblings who have passed away are; William, Abraham Jr. and Idus Earl

Odell gave birth to a beautiful daughter, the late Lillie Kate and is survived by her granddaughter, Shemiah Byrd and two great-grandchildren, Shakira and Shamir.

In Philadelphia and for the past thirty years, Linda and Joe Granito became her adopted family along with their children, Emily, Elena and Rachel.

Odell truly valued her family and friends and always embraced her religion. She has been a member of the Thankful Baptist Church for many years and was a woman of faith who was sincere and genuine. Odell warmed the hearts of everyone with whom she came in contact and will be sorely missed by all who came to know and love her.
