Nellie Mae Virginia Grady

Nellie Mae Virginia Grady (also known to many as Barbara Jean) was born on December 9, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pa to the late Charles and Louise Harley. She was the 4th and only girl born to them.

Barbara attended Philadelphia Public Schools graduating Kensington High in 1964. After graduating from high school, Barbara worked for Bell Atlantic which is now known as Verizon for 32 years. She worked in the medical department and as a operator before retiring in 1996.

After sitting home for 8 months, Barbara decided to go back to work, working for the School District of Philadelphia. She worked at Girls High and Benjamin Franklin before retiring in 2005 due to having a stroke and other health issues.

In 1976, Barbara met James Waller (Jimmy) with whom they had a daughter Danielle. They remained a couple until the end.

Barbara was a lot of fun, loved life, and always had a smile on her face. She never let her illnesses get the best of her. She remained upbeat and active cooking Sunday dinner, making her runs to the market or her favorite store Walmart. She adored her granddaughter Kyelle, who always kept her mom-mom busy playing games, making pictures, baking cakes, or having random conversation until she eventually said "Ok Kyelle, go to bed".

Barbara was considered a mom to many. Her door was always open as well as her arms if you needed a hug or for her to be a listening ear.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Danielle, her beloved James (Jimmy), grand-daughter Kyelle, one brother Charles Harley, lifelong sister/friend Florence (Pumpkin) and a host of relatives and friends
