Margaret "Mickey" Johnson

"For everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under Heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Margaret "Mickey" Johnson passed into God's hands on the night of October 24, 2015. She was an involved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a wonderful example of Faith Hope and Love. Margaret was born on May 31, 1933 and was the youngest child born to the late Clifford and Myrtle Gravatt. She was raised along with her 9 siblings in Norristown, Pa. "Mickey", as she was affectionately called by her family was educated in North Wales, Pa. and started school at the young age of three. This attest to why Mickey was so highly intelligent. She was not fully satisfied knowing she had not obtained her high school diploma so she attended classes at Center in the Park where she received her G.E.D. She furthered her education while attending Community College of Philadelphia and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business. Margaret accepted Christ at an early age and attended various churches in the North Wales and Philadelphia area. She wanted to increase her foundation in Christ and joined Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Alyn E. Waller. Margaret loved attending Enon and was a faithful member until her health began to fail. The Rock of Margaret's strength, courage, and salvation was her Faith in God and in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Margaret worked for the Good Lad Manufacturing Company and had a very rewarding career lasting more than 30 years. Her dedication to Good Lad enabled her to open doors for others to obtain employment with the company. Margaret reared her 5 children in the Germantown and Mt. Airy section of the city. They were one of the first African American families to help desegregate the 200 block of West Mt. Pleasant Avenue in the 1960's. She made all the neighborhood children feel welcome, and their home was a place of refuge for many. A lot of good memories and times were had in her home. She spent the last 15 years of her life living at the Four Freedoms House Senior Living apartments in Germantown. She enjoyed hosting Friday night bingo games, working at the desk in the lobby and attending bible study classes at the apartment. She was honored last year as "Mother of the Church" at the Freedoms House. She was an active part of the Freedoms House family and made a difference in the lives of the seniors living there. Margaret's favorite past times and hobbies were bowling, sewing, and she was a master at constructing puzzles and would spend numerous hours developing puzzles from around the world. She has a huge collection of different puzzles that will be distributed among her children and grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her two husbands, Donald Greene and Edward "Bunny" Johnson, her loving and compassionate daughter, Cheryl, who was the apple of her eye. The essence of her light grew dimmer after Cheryl's death. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy and her love for life, family, and friends. She leaves to remember and cherish her legacy, four sons, Robert "Bobby" Gravatt (Lillian), Ronald "Ronnie" Greene (Patricia), Darryl Greene, and James Greene (Cynthia). One brother, Aubrey Gravatt; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the residences of Four Freedoms House Senior Apartments.
