Joshua Jones Obituary

Joshua Leonard Jones known affectionately as Poppa Josh /and or Uncle Josh, was born June 14, 1942, to the late Alma Florence Jones, and the late Robert Elwood Jones, Sr., in Charles City Virginia. Joshua was the fifth child of 10 Siblings. Two siblings preceded him in death, Wilbur and Emma. Josh gave his life to Christ at an early age; he joined Little Elam Baptist Church, in Charles City, Virginia, at the age of 11. Josh received his education, in the Public School System, in Charles City County, Virginia. Josh enlisted in the United States Army in the early Sixties. In 1966, while stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey, Josh met the women of his dreams, Philistine, "It was love at first sight," six weeks later, they were married! To this union, 3 Children were born, Allen, Michael and Mark. Josh worked many years in construction and truck driving. After many years of service, Josh retired from the United States Army Reserve. His sons loved and adored him, for the great family man that he was. Josh enjoyed going fishing, sitting on his porch talking with his neighbors, telling stories and he loved family gatherings. He had a beautiful smile and when he laughed, his laughter usually provoked laughter in others. Josh joined Davis Temple Baptist Church in 1995, under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt Alston, Sr. He wasn't one to come in and warm the pews. He immediately, became a member of the Usher board, the Trustee Board, and a member of the Male Chorus. He served as Vice President, of the Usher Board, until his health began to fail and he could no longer serve. During his service, Josh was also the Chairman of the Trustee Board. Josh was a Born Again Christian, he read his Bible, studied the Scriptures, and he was a man of Prayer. He kept the faith and he finished the course, "To God Be the Glory!" Josh leaves to cherish his memory, 6 sons, Leonard Johnson, of Charles City VA, Keith Johnson of Richmond, V A., Allan (Paula), Michael (Melinda), Mark Jones, and Aaron Henry; 5 grandchildren: India, Markazia, Markeyda, Anieya Jones, and Zaylin Henry; 3 Sisters: Alleana Jefferson, Mattie Jones, and Bessie Hundley, (Merritt) 4 Brothers: Robert Jr. (Lucy), James, Sr. (Shirley), Joseph, Sr. (Sandra), Alfred Jones, Sr. (Maxine) and a host of Nieces, nephews and cousins.
