Evangelist Scott Obituary

On August 30, 2015 God in his infinite wisdom sent his angels down to retrieve "Our Special" angel. Mary Kelly Scott was born on January 1, 1928 in Florence, South Carolina to the late Rubin and Julia Kelly. Evangelist Marie Scott moved to Philadelphia with her parents as a young child. She was educated in the Philadelphia School System. She graduated in 1946 from Murrell E. Dobbins Vocational Technical School, where she obtained her License in Cosmetology. Marie as she was affectionally known was employed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She retired in 1991 after being an employee for 30 plus years. Marie accepted Christ as her Personal Savior at an early age. Evangelist Marie K. Scott joined the Open Door Baptist Church in the early 1960's under the leadership of the late Founder Rev. B.F. Johnson, She remained a member under the leadership of Bishop R. Jeremiah Norris she was a faithful member. During her many years at Open Door, she joined the Usher Board and Pulpit Circe. She also taught various classes in Vacation Bible School. She attended the Philadelphia College of bible. On September 27, 1996 she was Licensed by Bishop R. Jeremiah Norris. After much Prayer, being led by the Holy Spirit, Evangelist Scott was united with the Greenwood Baptist Church family in 1993 under the leadership of Rev. Frederick Hines. Evangelist Scott served faithfully at Greenwood as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She also taught Bible class every Wednesday along with Deacon Yates. Evangelist Scott was a loving peoples person. She always tried to make the people that she loved happy. She enjoyed going on Christian Retreats and the Spirit of Philadelphia. She was a professional Cosmetologist who loved doing hair and gave her time, energy, and love to family functions she also enjoyed going to the Country Buffet where her and Rev. Hill sat for hours eating and chatting along with friends. Not only did she bake delicious cakes, she cooked for anyone, at anytime. She also devoted her time to the sick and shut-in and doing Missionary Work. As a member of the Golden Age Club, she contributed her time to enhancing their lives and the lives of any and all that she came in contact with. Evangelist Scott was a very Devoted Special Mother in Christ to the late Rev. Gwendolyn Hill and Grandmother. She was an exceptional godmother, and counselor to family members and friends to many of the children at her church and her neighborhood 25th and Ridge Ave. Evangelist Marie K Scott leaves to mourn her memory many Family and friends.
