Edward Lee Monk

Edward Lee Monk affectionately known as Boot, Bootie, or the Bootman by his family, and Monk or Mr. Monk by friends and neighbors, was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina on November 13, 1936 to the late Dora Monk. He was raised by his grandfather rules and his step grandmother Sarah. He was educated in the Edgecombe County Public School School. It was in 1958 when he married May Farmer and soon thereafter their first child James was born. In 1960, Edward moved from North Carolina to Philadelphia. While living with uncle james and Aunt Lurline, he began working for Globe Superior, where he was employed for thirteen years. In the early 1960's Edward and his wife began living in an apartment when identical twin son Victor and Vincent were born. By the late 1960's, their first daughter Karen was born. With their family becoming larger they decided to move into a house on Bristol Street. Edward was hired by the Budd Company in 1972, the same year his second daughter Kim was born. Edward was employed by the Budd Company for 30 years from which he retired in 2002. Edward was a generious man. He would give family, friends and neighbors lifts to where they wanted to go, repairing their cars, or giving a few dollars even when he didn't have it to give. Edward Monk was a very humerous man as well. He liked being happy and up beat, and he truly loved making others laugh. Edward is survived by his Wife Mary Ann Monk; Sons James Edward, Victor and Vincent; Daughters Karen and Kimberly and son-in-law Greg. Grandchildren David, Denise, Leviticus, Kenneth, and Kevin; 8 Great Grandchildren; Brothers Joshua (Gayle), David (Liz), Alonzo , Len, Sammy (Lisa), Earl (Deceased) (Marilyn); 4 Sisters Margaret (Gerald), Juanita (Melvin), Doreatha (Deceased), Lucerene and an abundance of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
