Dorothy L. Whitehead

Dorothy L. Whitehead, affectionately known by her parents Henry and O'Dell has "Knot" was born On April 10th 1932 in Rocky Mont N.C. Her parent preceded her in death. Dorothy is the third of four
children; Mary, Robert, & youngest brother Henry Jr. With the latter two preceding her in death.
As a young lady Dorothy attended school in The Richmond Va. school district. She relocated afterwards to New York in search of a career in the fashion model industry. And she had vision for herself.
Her unique beauty and talent propelled her into becoming the first Afro‐American female model hired by the now, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. which led to her gracing the pages of Ebony Magazine.
But as the years passed she wanted to raise a family and become the doting mom we know and loved. She raised 8 children. 1 daughter Cassandra & 7 boys, Larry, Timothy, Kenneth, Daniel, Donald, Joshua & Eugene Jr. She also raised 1 adopted daughter George Aishea Carber Williams Both Kenneth & Donald preceded her in death.
She is survived by her 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Countless friends, family and associates.
Dorothy was a giving soul who has literally given the cloths off her back. And helping others is how she wanted to be defined.
She found the Lord in joining Enon Baptist Church and set out to begin to make a difference. Becoming a candidate for State Representative, A Home Care provider. Co‐Founder of Philadelphia's Crisis Intervention Network, Sitting on The Board of The Mayors Commission on Gang Control. Humanitarian Awards, from The Pepsi Cola Bottling Group, The City of Philadelphia's Chamber of Commerce, Town Watch Coordinator and Even running a boys home in the City of Easton. Pa. right into her retirement.
Dorothy Whitehead will be sorely missed by many.
