Doris Carter Obituary

Doris E. Carter, affectionately known as Gram, was born to the late Florence and William Edward Warner, Sr. on April 23, 1940. She was raised and educated in Atlantic City, New Jersey. After graduating high school Doris relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Once settled in Philadelphia, her engaging personality endeared her to all who met her and she became a well-known Barmaid. However, her love of Children and Education drove her to pursue more. After receiving a degree in Early Education from Antioch University, Doris became an integral part of the G.W. Childs Elementary School family. While she loved what she was doing, she loved her family more. So, at the urging of her Aunt Edith, the Family Matriarch, Doris went to work at Cozen & O'Connor where she found another family.

Doris loved God, her family, traveling and playing games of chance. She publicly declared Jesus as her Lord and Savior at Tindley Temple Baptist Church, When her grandchildren were young, she would gather them and their friends and take them on day trips to the local beach in her hometown of Atlantic City. At Cozen & O'Connor, she found her perfect travel companions, Posse 809. Together they enjoyed exploring the well-known monuments, historic sites and local neighborhood scene of places such as Paris, Egypt and Ephesus, to name a few. Doris documented each trip with a magnet and a set of Salt and Pepper Shakers. The Bahamas was their favorite. It's where they went to relax. They were honorary locals!

On Monday, October 30, 2017, the Lord sent an angel for our beloved Doris.

Doris leaves to mourn five children, Sharon, Joyce, Robin, Doren and Donna; son-in-law Mansur Abdul-Muizz; eight grandchildren, Wadiya, Karim, Hakim, Charles, Naim, Jamila, Frederick, and Aaron; 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Mildred Harris, sister-in-law Alfreda Warner; five nieces, Shelly, Denise, Norma, April and Vanessa, nephew William, III; two god-children, Carol and Martina; her Atlantic City, 15th Street and Cozen & O'Connor families and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her Husband Charles Fisher, three brothers, William Jr., Ronald and Robert Warner, sister Betty Fisher, sister-in-law Francine Warner; two grandchildren, Troy and Dionne Warner and nephew Robert Warner, Jr. and a faithful canine companion, Rusty.
