Chere Royce McCottry

Chere "Royce" McCottry was born January 25, 1960, to John Cleveland McCottry (who preceded her in death) and Leolia McCottry. She graduated from Murrell Dobbins High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvaniain 1977. Chere was an excellent student and Majored in bussiness. She was quick with numbers and could negotiate anything to go her way. She even convinced her gym teacher to accept a written paper in lieu of taking gym. It worked and she passed her gym class.

Chere attended Harrisburg Community College in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she studied accounting. She was always good with numbers. She was well organized and was known to keep a list. Chere was also thifty and could find a good deal.

Chere or "Momma Chere", as she was so lovingly called, cherished childen. She obtained her Child Care Certification in 1994. Chere held numerous positions throughout her life, but taking care of children was her favorite. Children loved Momma Chere and she loved children. At some point, every baby that came in contact with Chere would end up laying on her stomach.

Momma Chere enjoyed having a good time and knew how to "Get The Party Started" with good food, good drinks, and card games. Chere was quick witted, sarcastic, and very funny. Most of all she loved to travel, cook large meals, and spend time with her children. Although Chere had her own place, she could be found going from one of her children's homes to another's. She is the center of many legendary stories involving her children and their friends, from childhood through adulthood.

Chere attended and was baptized at Hopewell Community Church in Pottstown, Pennsylvania where she also volunteered taking care of children. Chere touched many lives. She was a very knowledgeable person and could give advice on everything. Everyone that knew her loved her. Chere was a people person with a generous spirit and she will truly be missed by family and friends.

Chere will be forever loved by her mother, Leolia McCottry, six children Schere Hill, Tymek Banks, Sharae McCottry, Tamara McCottry, Shaquira McCottry, and Cherell McCottry ( who preceded her in death),one son-in-law Mark Hill, Sr., one sister Leslie McCottry, God-siblings Diane, Benjamin Jones, and Tony Jones. Seven grandchildren James Webb III, Saige Hill, Mark Hill,Jr., Aubrei Hill, Israel McCottry, Azariah Hil, and Kailana Sannicks; two nieces Ivy McCottry and Tariq.
